About the 2019 Conference

The MSBMB, supported by the FAOBMB and IUBMB will organize the 27th FAOBMB Conference and International Meeting-44th MSBMB Conference with the theme of “Biomolecules: Networks & Systems” incorporating a focused symposia on 'Mosquito borne illnesses'.

This conference will present, as one feature, a broad array of topics in contemporary biochemistry and molecular biology. Another major feature of the conference is an emphasis on mosquito-borne illnesses, which encompasses issues of significant importance to the region and also globally.  The mosquito is the most damaging insect-vector transmitting bacteria, viruses and parasites that cause diseases such as malaria, dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya and zika.  In recent years, insecticide resistance coupled with greater movement of people around the world have led to the spread of diseases to areas previously untouched by these diseases.  This characteristic of focused symposia supported by broad topics in biochemistry is a unique feature of the 2019 Conference and expected to attract scientists and researchers around the world to share the biochemistry and molecular biology of vector control, mechanisms of infection and resistance, and novel therapies. In addition, other topics to be presented in the broader thematic context include fundamental biochemistry and molecular biology ranging from mechanisms of disease, drug discovery to applied biochemistry in industry.

The Malaysian Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (MSBMB) was established in 1973 as a professional body representing biochemists and molecular biologists in Malaysia.  The Society aims to be a platform for Malaysian scientists to network and interact locally and internationally via a variety of activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops, special lectures and focus group meetings on matters related to biochemistry & molecular biology. These are often organised in collaboration with universities and research institutions. The MSBMB is an adhering body to the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) and The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB).

About the FAOBMB

Founded in 1972, FAOBMB is a Federation of National Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Asian and Oceanian Region. The primary purpose of FAOBMB is to promote the science of biochemistry and molecular biology, including education, research and technological applications, worldwide and in particular in the Asian and Oceanian Region.

The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - founded in 1955 - unites biochemists and molecular biologists in 75 countries that belong to the Union as an Adhering Body or Associate Adhering Body represented by a biochemical society, a national research council or an academy of sciences. The Union is devoted to promoting research and education in biochemistry and molecular biology throughout the world and gives particular attention to areas where the subject is still in its early development.
