Winner of the 2017 MSBMB Annual Conference Fellowship Award

Yip Chee Hoo

Chee Hoo is currently pursuing his PhD at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and presented his work titled 'CONSTRUCTION OF THE RED PIGMENT PRODIGIOSIN OPERONS USING A SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY APPROACH' during the Young Investigators Session at the International Meeting & 42nd Annual Conference of the MSBMB 16-17th August 2017

"I was thrilled to be named the first recipient of the MSBMB Annual Conference Fellowship which enabled me to participate in the 42nd Annual MSBMB Conference held in Kuala Lumpur recently. Receiving the Fellowship also facilitated my participation in the YSN-ASM & MSBMB Young Investigators Session, co-organised with the Young Scientists Network, held on the second day of the conference. In this session, graduate students were given 5 minutes each to present their research findings. I spoke about part of my PhD project and how I was constructing the synthetic operons of the multi-beneficial Serratia prodigiosin using a synthetic biology approach. To my delight, I was awarded the MSBMB-YSN Young Investigator Award slong with Mei-Li Khong from Hong Kong University and Min-Han Lew from Universiti Sains Malaysia. The 2-day conference provided me with excellent opportunities to network with the other participants and scientific company representatives whilst being able to listen to outstanding presentations from renowned Malaysian and international scientists. Furthermore, a breakfast session with 3 prominent principal investigators from USM, UM and UPM also provided lots of insights into staying motivated and passionate in doing science. All in all, my experience at the conference was truly rewarding and satisfying."
