MALAYSIAN SOCIETY FOR BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasidah Sidek

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 40th Annual Conference of the Malaysian Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (MSBMB) here in Putrajaya. MSBMB continues its tradition to provide a platform for scientific deliberations among biochemists, molecular biologists and researchers in related fields. This year, we are honored to have with us at the conference, esteemed Executive Council members of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB),

Prof. Kiyoshi Fukui (Japan)

Prof. Phillip Nagley (Australia)

Prof. Piamsook Pongsawasdi (Thailand)

Prof. Sheila Nathan (Malaysia)

Also gracing our 40th Annual Conference is Prof. Choong-Ill Cheon representing the Korean Society for Molecular and Cell Biology (KSMCB).

On behalf of MSBMB, I wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to you for kindly accepting our invitation to speak at the conference. It is especially meaningful to have you here with us this year as the Society commemorates the Ruby Anniversary of the conference.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Young Scientist Network (YSN) represented by Prof. Cheong Sok Ching for partnering with MSBMB for yet another year to facilitate the Meet-the-Expert Session organized especially for our young and up-coming researchers. Sincere appreciation also goes to our invited speakers, oral and poster presenters who have all contributed to the success of the meeting today. Not forgetting, our gratitude to exhibitors who have given generously toward realizing the conference.

Today's event would not have been made possible without the hard work and commitment from members of the Organizing Committee. I hereby sincerely acknowledge their tireless effort to bring this meeting to reality.

FOREWORD BY THE CO-CHAIRPERSON

ORGANISING COMMITTEE,

40th ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE MSBMB

Assoc. Prof. Dr. M.S.Kanthimathi

Welcome to the 40th Annual Conference of the Malaysian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The Organising Committee and I are very pleased and encouraged at the overwhelming response by scientists and students to showcase their research at this Ruby Anniversary Conference. This year we have a number of international participants, including a representative from the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. We are also graced by key members of the Executive Committee (including the President) of the FAOBMB (Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists) as Speakers. We hope that this will facilitate greater scientific discourse and lead to regional and international collaboration and meetings.

Few scientific societies in Malaysia can boast of 41 years of successful continuous existence and 40 years of annual conferences. So, members of MSBMB can truly be proud of their membership in this Society.

The two days of scientific deliberation among scientists from different institutions will, I believe, foster greater avenues for collaboration and instigate new ideas and new paths to achieve greater excellence and success in everyone’s research areas. I hope student participants will also find value, not only in the public presentation in showcasing their research findings, but also inspire them to go onto greater heights in forging new paths in scientific discovery.

There are 3 plenary, 6 invited, 16 oral, 1 technical talk and close to 47 poster presentations, encompassing a wide range of diverse topics.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our speakers, poster presenters, participants and sponsors for being present to make this Ruby Anniversary MSBMB Conference a great success. I would also like to thank all the members of the Organising Committee who worked tirelessly from the end of last year to make this Conference a reality and did not let setbacks faze them.
